Coimbatore Airport

Coimbatore Airport which is situated in Peelamedu district of the city was earlier known as the Peelamedu or Coimbatore Civil Aerodrome and is at a distance of 11km from the center of the city. It is the 18th largest airport in India in terms of total passenger movement and 13th largest airport in terms of cargo handling. 

Coimbatore International Airport is the primary airport serving the Coimbatore metropolis in south India. At present, the airport is operating both domestic as well as international flights.



There is also a proposed plan for extension of the airport which includes expansion of runaway to 12,500ft which is 3,800 m which will help to have room for larger aircraft such as Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 and construction of a parallel taxiway to the runaway as to reduce the runway occupancy time and turnaround time of aircraft. 

There will be more parking bays to raise the total number of bays to eight for more convenience for travelers. There are various cab services, call taxis and auto rickshaws which provide 24 hours commuting services to the airport.

Terminal 1: The airport has a single passenger terminal for both national and international operations. There are a number of airlines like Jet Airways, IndiGo, Air India, JetLite and SpiceJet which connect the city with all the main cities of the country such as Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata etc. Airlines like Air Arabia and Silkair connect the airport with Sharjah and Singapore respectively.

Terminal 2: It is primarily a cargo terminal where airlines like Kingfisher Xpress, Blue Dart Aviation, Air India Cargo and Yanda Airlines propose their services.

Bus Stand: This airport is located on Avinashi Road about 10km around 6.2 m from the Central Bus station. There are always frequent bus services which are available from Gandhipuram central bus station and also from other auxiliary bus stations at Singanallur and Ukkadam and takes about 25 minutes to reach the airport.
 
Railway Station: Coimbatore Railway Station is about 18 km from Coimbatore airport and takes about 40 minutes to reach the airport. One can easily hire taxis from the station to reach the airport.
