Fundamentally, the Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park is an initiatory of the Coimbatore Zoological Park Society (a non-profit-making administration introduced by PSG Education group). The park was constituted during the year 1986 to encourage preservation and careful management of the environment and of natural resources of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. 

The nature park is recorded officially under Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act 1975 and pioneered with a noble objective of creating consciousness on the priceless natural wealth of the Nilgiris Biosphere. A zoological garden in the park is proposed to attract visitors from all over and nature lovers.

From the day of its constitution, the Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park has reestablished and aided growing of a lot of different florae assorts, which include 430 species of 25,000 floras of which 85 species are found only in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. In addition, it is significant to note that almost 30% of these 85 species were in imminent danger of extinction in the natural state.
