Some of the major rivers that flow through the district include Noyyal, Bhavani, Amaravathi and Aliyar. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was established by the Prime Minister of India with the main aim to protect millions of people from all kinds of natural disasters. 

Here, the government authorities ensure to create awareness for the people regarding the need of pre-disaster management plans and other precautions to be taken. Places which are prone to flood are Krishnayarayapuram due to its proximity to Ammankulam, Uppilipalayam for its proximity to Singanallur tank, Ramanathapuram and Puliakulam as it is near to Valankulam.In the central and Muthankulam. Singanallur has also been highlighted as flood prone due to its proximity to Kamala Mill Kuttai.
