GeeDee car museum CoimbatoreCoimbatore is popular for its passion for racing cars and automobiles. For all those people in Coimbatore and around who are fond of cars, a trip to the GeeDee Car Museum on the Avanashi road will give a thrilling experience. The museum exhibits huge collection of cars that start from vintage cars that are as old as 100 years to latest model race cars. The vehicles are believed to be brought in from all corners of the world. For now the museum has a collection of over 70 cars.

Cars on Display in Coimbatore Car Museum

The collection of the museum includes a replica of 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, the first automobile in the world. Most of the cars in the museum belong to the G D Charitable Trust’s private collection. Some of the classic cars have been brought down from countries like Japan, USA, France, Germany, Spain and the Great Britain. Eight vintage cars have been donated by their owners to the collection of the museum. Apart from the classic collection of cars, the museum also has video shows, a car restoration workshop and some time to time theme based events.

The car museum is built over an area of 19,000 square feet in the memory of Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu (G.D.Naidu) who was also known as “Edison of India”. He was a great scientist, inventor, philanthropist and educationalist. People visiting the museum find that the cars are arranged chronologically and each display has a documentation that explains the evolution and a brief history of the car. One can see how the technology in the cars has developed from engines to seating arrangements to tires and others. The museum plans to add more cars to its collection in the next few years. Some of the cars on display include Rolls Royce 20 a four door convertible 1925 model, Victory Six by Dodge Brothers produced in 1929, DKW-F7 Meisterklasse a two-door sedan manufactured in the year 1938 and a 1955 model BMW Isetta 250.

The brands in the display include BMW 700, Morris Mini, Austin 7, Clas Goggomobile, Rolls Royce from Great Britain, Volkswagen Beetle, Morris Cowley, Wolseley 8, Clas Goggomobile, Porsche Boxer from Germany, Benz 1705, Mazda Rx8, Subaru Rex and Toyota from Japan.

The cars from the French collection include, Peugot 203, 504 and 605 and Citroen XM. The American collection includes Oldsmobile Dynamic 60, Dodge Victory Six and Cadillac Limousine. One car that comes from the Spanish market is Hispano Suiza H6B. And when there is such a huge collection all over the world, how can one miss out cars from Indian brands. The collection from Indian market includes cars from Ambassador to latest technology sports cars.

Contact Details of Car Museum

One can enjoy the cars collection in the museum. The museum was opened for general public from April 27, 2015. The timings of the museum are from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and on Sunday, the Museum is open from 10 AM to 6 PM. The entry fee is Rs.50 and all the children below 12 years of age are free to enter.
